Our Story

Our Family

4 generations ago, our families left Europe – Sicily in the South (the Aliotos) and Germany and Ireland in the North (the Piers) – for a new life in America. Our ancestors left behind their land, but they brought with them their values of hard-work, family, and the appreciation of a shared meal. They settled in the West and the mid-West to work the sea and the land, to provide for their families, and to ensure that the next generation of Aliotos and Piers would thrive. Their offspring went on to become attorneys, politicians, merchants, engineers and authors.

More than 20 years ago, we returned to the land. We purchased a small plot of land on the Rutherford Bench in Napa Valley with one thought in mind: to make the best wine we possibly could. We feel we succeeded, and the result is our award winning single-vineyard Alioto-Pier Cabernet Sauvignon.

Our Vineyard

All great wines start with a great vineyard. Ours is located in the Rutherford Appellation in the Napa Valley. The region is known for producing the best Cabernet Sauvignon wines in the world – the combination of soil (“Rutherford dust”), climate, and vines are unsurpassed anywhere on Earth.

When we purchased the vineyard in 1995, we realized there was hard work ahead of us. The existing vines were suffering from phylloxera and were of older and under-producing root stock. So we decided to start from scratch-  we removed all of the existing vines and then took the time to allow the land to heal. Later, we replanted with the best root stock available. We didn’t harvest for years, waiting for the vines to take to the soil. Even then, we didn’t feel the vines were ready for us to start producing the quality wines that we wanted — it was another 10 years before we felt the vines were ready.

Our Wine

We have always felt that the best way to achieve the perfect wine is to oversee the wine-making process from beginning to end.  Our vineyard has always been tended by hand- as is every harvest.  From vineyard growth and maintenance, to harvest and crush, fermentation and barreling-  every step of our wine-making process is done by hand.

Our flagship wine, Alioto-Pier Cabernet Sauvignon, is sourced exclusively from our own vineyard.  Crafted by hand, it is a unique single-vineyard Rutherford creation.

Our blended red is Delphina, named after our vineyard dog and best friend.  Like Delphina the dog, Delphina the wine is playful, yet bold.  It is also sourced exclusively from our vineyard.

We also offer two Rosés:  a Rosé of Malbec and a Pinot Noir Rosé.  Both are crisp and dynamic.
